Cyclone Idai hits like a bomb!
The devastating cyclone affects three South African countries. Electricity and communication are closed and houses destroyed. Sofala, Manica, Zambezia and Inhambane are the most affected provinces in Mozambique. Teams that reach the disaster area start with coordination, aerial reconnaissance and help the first victims.
The first helicopters are being prepared to map the emergency situation of the flood from the air, as well as the landing possibilities for C.A.R.go aircraft with relief supplies with connecting distribution points. In the 'drier' areas we can drop the first food supplies.
Meter-high trees and houses are completely submerged. We are really sitting here on a water, sanitary ticking bomb. The needs are enormous for all those affected by the disaster, exacerbated by widespread poverty. Women and children are particularly vulnerable and suffer from multiple shock.
